Our house buying journey

Jason and I have been together for 12 years and in those 12 years we have moved A LOT, and by a lot I mean like every 6 months to a year for the past 12 years.  In the beginning moving was fine when it was just Jason and I but once we started having kiddos it made it a lot harder.  Moving with 3 kids is pure torture, you try to pack while they are right behind you unpacking things you've packed!

We moved to Texas in January after Jason was offered a job he couldn't turn down.  It was hard to move away from family and be in this new state and not know anyone but we made it work.  We found a rental house before moving here and always knew we wanted to buy a house.  This new job opportunity made that even more possible for us.  After 7 months of working at his new job Jason got a raise which made the whole house buying journey that much better.  So we sat down and talked about where in Texas we would want to live and we found a realtor and started looking.

We looked online and found 6 houses that fit what we were looking for.  We went at looked at these 6 houses and then narrowed down our options.  We narrowed the houses down to 2 options.  After going over everything we chose a 3bd 2 ba 4 car garage on 2 acres.  We were really excited about it, we started the processes and put an offer in.  This house needed some updating so we were excited to make it our own.  We went back and forth and finally accepted an offer.  The processes seemed so easy and we had no problems.  But all that changed after we had our home inspection, our home inspection discovered a lot of electrical problems in the house that involved needed a wall to be opened up to fix the problem and after lots of talking we decided that that was to much for us to take on, so we backed out.  We let a couple weeks pass and decided we wanted to make an offer on the other option, but we got out bid on that house (there were 2 other offers).  So we decided to take a break and go on our family vacation to CA and we would decide what we were going to do after we got back.  We even talked about buying land and building a house.

But right before I left to go to CA Jason and I were looking through all the housing options again and we found this brand new house built in 2014.  I made an apt to go look at it right before I left for CA and I fell in love!  The house was perfect.  We went on our trip and once we returned Jason and I went to go look at the house together.  The house was perfect for us and the even better part was the empty lot next door was for sale as well.  At first we put in an offer for just the house and it got rejected, we waited a few days and then went back with our second offer this time including the empty lot next door and they came back and we accepted!

Minus the little hiccup with the first house this whole house buying experience has been pretty easy.  We are suppose to close on July 31st and we cant wait.  The girls are so excited and we have some great plans for the backyard and front yard.  Yay for an easy house buying experience and to our final move!

We were able to pick out what appliances we wanted which was awesome and something fun that we got to do together.  I don't think I've been so excited about appliance, I guess that's what happens when you get older.  We are coming up with really fun ideas for the girls rooms and playroom.  I cant wait to move in and start decorating.  As of Friday July 18th we have 13 days till closing and then we plan to move in Aug 1st weekend.  My little brother is flying in from CO on July 31st and then some friends from CA are flying in on August 1st to help us move and then have some Texas fun!

Keep a look out for a house tour soon....

  5. I’m glad to hear that you finally found a house that suits all your interests and needs. Although there are lot of choices out there, each of us still has a standard we want to follow, in which our needs and wants are the main focus. Anyway, I hope that you are settling in real well in there. Thanks for sharing that, Joeylee! All the best to you and your family!
